28mm

I do a lot of photography, carrying a camera with me at all times. Usually it is more than just an iPhone. (The latest iPhone is always here, for Adobe Lightroom CC camera shooting DNG and RAW HDR using all the iPhone lenses.)

I went through a lot of cameras in my life, and the bulk now is shot with two systems: Leica M and Hasselblad XCD. The character of a photo is defined by the camera and the lens. The lens is hugely important. I’ll highlight various lenses that I like here in separate posts. I also keep the galleries for each lens.

The Summilux 28mm is great for street photography. As Street Silhouettes note, it is a perfect one-lens vacation kit. On the M10, you’re actually seeing the whole frame. Pretty much the same view on the m60, Monochrom Typ 262 and M-P. The good thing compared to 35mm is that in a restaurant, the table usually fits entirely, with all the people in your party. this comes handy indoors. You should shoot it wide open.

Cityscapes are panoramic without being fish-eye-y.

Writing From Cafe

A lot of writing is done in cafes.  A lot of photography is done there too.  Writers and photographers drink coffee, communicate with friends at the table or around the globe, review their work, publish it, get inspired by others.  This series of essays is continuing the tradition.

You come for the companionship, to be with people and also with your thoughts. You may read, write, or type. Many of us are looking at a screen, but we also take in everything around us.

There are drinks other than coffee, food, and almost always, croissants. Together with a latte, it can last you all day!

So let’s write, see photos of remote lands and streets next door, trails on the mountains around the world and in the woods that are a ten minute drive. Let’s share from cafe.
